At Burnt Bark Co., every piece is truly handcrafted from start to finish. Each design is individually burned by hand — never laser-etched, printed, or mass-produced. That means no two pieces are ever exactly alike. The subtle variations, natural wood grain, and careful detailing are part of what make your piece one-of-a-kind. You also have the option to add hand-painted watercolor accents to bring added depth, warmth, and life to your piece. When you purchase from Burnt Bark Co., you’re not just buying décor — you’re investing in time, intention, and heartfelt craftsmanship.

The Heart Behind the Burn

Burnt Bark Co. was born from an unexpected beginning.

After Hurricane Helene swept through Chapin, South Carolina in 2024—just days after I had moved there—several trees fell on our property. Instead of seeing only loss, I saw opportunity. I began cutting fallen branches into wood rounds and teaching myself the art of pyrography, slowly transforming storm debris into meaningful, lasting pieces of art.

What started as a creative outlet quickly became a calling.

Each piece I create is burned entirely by hand, embracing the natural character of the wood and the beauty found in imperfection. I specialize in custom heirloom pieces—from wedding guest books to handwritten keepsakes—designed to preserve the moments that matter most.

My faith in Jesus is the foundation of both my life and my business. I actively serve in my local church, and my work is deeply rooted in the belief that beauty can rise from ashes and that even broken things can be redeemed for good.

When I’m not in my studio, you’ll likely find me outdoors with my pit bull, Easy—who encourages me to be silly and reminds me daily of joy, resilience, and unconditional love.

Thank you for being here and for supporting handcrafted, faith-driven art.

Kind Words

(01)

"I commissioned a special wood burn project of a young elephant from Sara. I sent her a single picture of the elephant and from there she created an extraordinary completed piece of art. Her work is exceptional and has excellent detail. I also needed the piece by a specific date and she delivered the project timely. I will certainly be requesting and buying pieces from her in the future!"

How Your Piece Comes to Life

01. Sharing Your Vision

Every custom piece begins with your story. During our consultation, we’ll discuss your ideas, inspiration, wording, sizing, and any special details you’d like incorporated. Whether it’s meaningful handwriting, a favorite verse, a logo, or a cherished image, this step ensures I fully understand your vision and the purpose behind your piece.

02. Design Approval

Once your vision is clear, I create a digital mockup for your review. This is your opportunity to see layout, sizing, and overall composition before the burning process begins. We can make any necessary adjustments to ensure everything feels just right. No burning begins until you give final approval.

03. Hand-Burned Creation

After approval, your design is carefully transferred and individually burned by hand using traditional pyrography techniques. Every line is created with patience and precision — never laser-etched or machine engraved. This is where the true craftsmanship happens, and where your piece begins to take on its unique character.

04. Finishing & Delivery

Once the burning is complete, your piece is cleaned, sealed, and protected for its intended use. Indoor décor pieces are finished with a clear protective coat, while outdoor items are sealed for durability against the elements. If selected, hand-painted watercolor accents are added during this stage. Your finished piece is then carefully packaged and prepared for delivery, ready to be displayed and treasured for years to come.
